The People Engaged in Raising Leaders (PERL) program is gearing up to offer a Boards and Commissions Training on September 20th, aiming to empower residents, especially those from underrepresented communities, to step into local government roles. The one-day event will be held in the Prairie Room at Boulder County Parks and Open Space.
The training is designed to fully equip participants to effectively apply for and serve on various boards and commissions. According to Boulder County, the session will delve into the details of these roles, covering responsibilities, application and interview processes, and the nuances of board culture. It's a chance to quickly learn how to navigate and positively influence the often complex board dynamics.
In addition to practical insights, the workshop will delve into communication strategies and managerial aspects like oversight and cultural implications within boards. Guest speakers will include a lineup of seasoned representatives from government boards, local organizations, and the Office of Boulder County Commissioners. The aim is to bridge the gap between community members and the sometimes daunting world of civic governance.
The event is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and offers a unique opportunity for residents of Boulder County to engage directly with local institutions. It's a targeted initiative seeking to cultivate the next generation of leaders, leaders who represent the full and rich diversity of the community they serve.
