The Boulder County Sheriff's Office has officially rolled out a new online system designed for the community to report specific non-emergency incidents. A statement on the Boulder County Sheriff's Office announces that as of Monday, August 18, residents of unincorporated Boulder County and the towns of Lyons, Nederland, and Superior can use this platform to report minor offenses that don't require immediate law enforcement intervention.

The new online system is appropriate for reporting incidents such as misdemeanor or petty theft, fraud or identity theft, criminal mischief, third-degree criminal trespass, and lost or found property. However, in cases where a crime is actively happening or involves weapons, the Sheriff's Office emphasizes the necessity of contacting 911 or their non-emergency number at 303-441-4444. It's a step towards modernizing the way citizens interact with law enforcement, providing a convenient avenue for people to document incidents that might be necessary for insurance claims or personal records.

Filed reports will undergo review by an employee of the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. The notice informs that although most entries to the service will not call for additional follow-ups, there could be times when further information is required, in which case an investigator might reach out to the person who filed the report.
