A blaze that erupted in an apartment building in the Bronx has left two firefighters with minor injuries and a man in custody on last night. According to ABC7NY, the fire was reported at 4140 Carpenter Ave. and resulted in a police arrest of Juan Jiminez, 42, who is now facing several charges including burglary, arson, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
According to FOX 5 New York, the call came in at 8:16 p.m. Firefighters arrived promptly to extinguish the two-floor blaze, and their efforts concluded at 9:08 p.m. The two injured firefighters were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with "green tag" injuries, indicating they were non-life-threatening.
While no civilians were reported injured during the event, Jiminez, who allegedly had been squatting in the apartment following his eviction, was discovered to have jumped from the fourth floor amidst the fiery chaos. He was apprehended and transported to Montefiore Wakefield Hospital by authorities, as per ABC7NY's report.
The investigation conducted by the Fire Marshals remains ongoing, and the details surrounding the cause of the inferno have yet to be fully disclosed. Nevertheless, the apartment was meant to be vacant, suggesting an unauthorized presence that may be linked to the subsequent disaster. More information is expected to surface as the inquiry into the fire's origin unfolds.
