The streets of Buckeye might just become a little safer thanks to a new injection of funds meant to target drivers operating under the influence. In a recent update, the Buckeye Police Department has secured a Grant designed to tackle the persistent issue of impaired driving. The $20,000 grant, secured through a partnership between the DUI Abatement Council and the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety, aims at shoring up enforcement through the following spring.
Those funds translate into increased patrols and boosted enforcement. The Buckeye Police Department will utilize over $14,000 of the grant for overtime costs, addressing the heightened need for officers on the roads during peak times when impaired driving is more likely. Further, to sustain these operations, more than $5,000 will go towards expenses related to the personnel involved, the city's announcement details.
The department's approach isn't merely reactive; it's a proactive strategy intent on reducing the devastating consequences that impaired driving can have—not just for those behind the wheel, but for the entire community. "Impaired driving puts everyone at risk and continues to be a top enforcement priority for the Buckeye Police Department," says the department's statement.
The Buckeye Police Department will use the funding to work with regional law enforcement on expanded traffic enforcement, aiming to combat impaired driving across city boundaries. Officials thanked the DUI Abatement Council and the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for supporting proactive enforcement and public education on the dangers of impaired driving.
