A Louisiana man faces fines and possible jail time after being cited for illegal shrimping in St. Bernard Parish. The man, identified as Julienne G. Creppel lll, 56, of Buras, was caught by agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division using skimmer nets to catch shrimp during a season when such activity is prohibited.

On Aug. 1, agents were on patrol around Lake Fortuna when they spotted Creppel III actively operating skimmer nets, even though the inside waters where he was found won't be officially open to shrimp until Aug. 11. Agents made contact and discovered Creppel III to be in possession of 544 pounds of shrimp, according to a report by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

As a result of the violation, the agents seized the shrimp and subsequently sold them to the highest bidder at the dock. Creppel III now faces a fine ranging between $400 and $950 and could potentially spend up to 120 days in jail if convicted of the charges against him.

The agents involved in the case were Corporal Michael Marques, Senior Agent John Stansbury, and Senior Agent Logan Pippin.
