The Canutillo High School's Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (NJROTC) showed up in force to support the 2025 Tour de Tolerance in El Paso this past Sunday. These cadets, typically accustomed to the regimentation and discipline of military training, applied their skills in a different theatre: providing guidance and assistance during an annual race meant to echo the messages of unity and remembrance.

On August 17, during the yearly event, which included a 50k bike ride, a 5k run/walk, and one-mile family and dog walks, the young representatives of the NJROTC traded their usual roles for those of racecourse stewards. They were seen guiding runners, distributing water, and essentially ensuring that the event proceeded without a hitch, as detailed by Canutillo ISD. The event, hosted by the El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center, celebrated its 20th anniversary while also raising funds for the museum’s educational programs that aim to combat hate and promote tolerance.

Beyond offering hydration and directions, the Canutillo NJROTC cadets brought a burst of energy to the event, enthusing athletes and spectators alike with their spirit of service. "We are proud of our cadets for stepping up and serving their community with dedication and teamwork," said Senior Chief (Ret.) Omar Gonzalez, cited by Canutillo ISD. These young individuals illustrated the institution's values through their community service and support of a significant cause.
