The Casa Grande Public Library has announced its upcoming weekly highlights from yesterday through Saturday, along with a notice about an upcoming closure. Both the Main Library and the Vista Grande Library will be closed briefly on September 1 for undisclosed reasons, with normal operations set to resume the following day, according to the City of Casa Grande.
While the closure may affect the regular schedules of local patrons, activities will still be available during the week. As per the announcement from the City of Casa Grande, "Anime & Art Tuesdays" with Ms. Katie is open to students in grades 6 through 12 and includes anime screenings along with drawing and craft activities every Tuesday. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and some content may be rated PG-13.
Gaming enthusiasts can look forward to "Game Time at Vista Grande," which will continue weekly from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Parents should note that those with children under 12 are required to stay. For those interested in crafts, the Crochet & Knitting Club meets every Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Participants need to bring their own supplies, although some yarn will be provided, as reported by the City of Casa Grande.
The library offers a variety of ongoing classes and activities, including ESL classes open to all levels without registration every Tuesday and Thursday. The City of Casa Grande notes that gardening enthusiasts can attend "Garden Tips Presentations" by UArizona Master Gardeners, featuring upcoming topics such as "Growing Grains" in September and "Tools & Tips" in December. For those seeking a quiet study space, study rooms can be reserved online or by phone—call 520-421-8710 for the Main Library or 520-421-8652 for the Vista Grande Library.
For those interested in getting involved locally, there are various volunteer and learning opportunities available. The Mayor’s Reading Club invites participants to spend just one hour a month reading to children in grades K–3; more information and registration are available through their channels. Additionally, free online courses covering a wide range of subjects are offered through Universal Class, accessible with a library card. For those interested in technology, Tutor Tech Time provides one-on-one sessions that can be scheduled via a provided link. Adults seeking to earn a GED can find details about the High School Diploma Program through the linked resources.
In addition to lending books, the library provides additional services and opportunities for community support. The Culture Pass program offers free admission to local cultural institutions and is available at both library locations and through the Bookmobile. Donations are accepted by the Friends of the Library at both locations during open hours, with a request to call ahead for larger items.
Lastly, for those planning a visit, the Main Library is located at 449 N. Drylake St. and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Vista Grande Library, located at 1556 N. Arizola Rd., operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and follows the same Saturday hours. A full newsletter with details on library offerings is available on their website.
