Charlotte-Mecklenburg residents planning to transition to solar energy face an upcoming deadline to qualify for the current Federal Tax Credit. An announcement from the City of Charlotte states that residents must sign up for a residential solar power system by the close of business tomorrow to remain on track for the 30% tax credit, which is scheduled to expire at the end of this year. Residents who do not meet this deadline may still be able to sign contracts and complete installations in time to qualify for the credit.
A community-driven initiative is working to make solar and battery power more accessible and affordable for residents in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. To improve the chances of securing a significant cost reduction on a new solar energy system, signing a contract before the close of business tomorrow is strongly recommended. In addition to the federal tax credit, all participants will receive group purchase discounts and remain eligible for Duke Energy’s PowerPair program rebates through October 31, though the program has a limited capacity.
“The Duke PowerPair program does have a capacity limit," Don Moreland, President of Solar Crowdsource, told the City of Charlotte. "At this time, we anticipate capacity to be available through the end of the year.”
According to the campaign outline, its bulk-purchase pricing model is intended to help participants reduce overall costs. Property owners have until October 31 to enroll with no obligation, while the final deadline to sign residential contracts is December 31. Businesses and nonprofits have extended timelines, allowing for the additional planning often required for larger systems.
