Charlotte families are gearing up for a community resource fair aimed at better connecting them with services that can help bolster their daily lives. The event, scheduled for August 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will take place at the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center on 430 Stitt Road and is completely free to the public. According to Mecklenburg County News, the fair promises to be an opportunity for residents to learn more about the Smart Start of Mecklenburg County and the multitude of services that are available at the center.
The resource center offers a variety of programs under one roof, designed to quickly assist individuals with their needs. Attendees at the fair will get the chance not only just browse but to actively engage with resources focusing on employment assistance, veterans services, nutrition assistance, health services, and housing security.
Parents and guardians with little ones will also find something especially for their families. The MECK Pre-K program, which provides a high-quality education to eligible four-year-olds at no cost to families, will be featured during the fair. The program is known for its licensed child development centers, licensed teachers, and highly qualified assistant teachers, and is funded by Mecklenburg County. It's operated by Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, which also offers early childhood resources like the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and The Basics Mecklenburg, focusing on children from birth to age three.
Kids won't be left out of the fun either. Outside the event, PNC Bank is planning to literally drive education home with their Mobile Learning Truck, which will set up pop-up activity stations for children to enjoy. And to make sure no one goes hungry while they explore, food trucks will be ready to serve up a variety of tasty dishes.
