Participants of the Chinle Chapter's Just Move It run experienced the sweltering summer heat firsthand, but that didn't deter their spirits or their stride on Wednesday, Aug. 13. According to a statement obtained by Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, the three-mile event was a testament to personal limits and communal challenge. With the First Lady running amongst the crowd, the event emphasized individual health and collective care.
Despite the scorching temperatures, event staff at the Chinle Chapter’s “Just Move It” run ensured participants stayed hydrated and safe. Water stations were set up along the route, and staff handed out recovery snacks at the finish line. President Nygren noted that these precautions helped prevent heat-related illnesses, a serious concern in Navajo communities during the summer months.
According to Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, the “Just Move It” run attracted a diverse group of participants, including people of all ages and families. Attendees took part in the event to promote health and physical activity while engaging with the community.
While the program will briefly halt during the peak heat, it is scheduled to resume on September 13 at the Navajo Nation Fairgrounds in Window Rock, Arizona, inviting an even larger group to join in pursuit of well-being for themselves and the Nation. Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren shared his anticipation, "I’m looking forward to seeing even more people there, ready to walk, run, and keep moving for their health and for our Nation."
