The Collierville Police Department has announced the lineup of School Resource Officers (SROs) who are set to ensure school safety for the 2025–2026 academic year. In a Facebook post, the Collierville Police Department introduced officers who have been assigned to various schools across the district, declaring their readiness to maintain security and community relations within the academic setting. The news comes at a time when the presence of police in schools is an ongoing national conversation.
Taking the helm as the SRO Supervisor is Lt. Felton, overseeing a team that's spread out over several Collierville schools. Officer Thomas and Officer Fitts have been given the task of covering all Collierville Schools, a move that speaks to the broadened scope of responsibility the department is facing. Additionally, the department has added two floating officers in a bid to bolster its school security measures. "They’re committed to building strong connections with students, staff, and parents while ensuring a secure and welcoming learning environment," stated the Collierville Police Department's social media post.
Each officer has been specifically assigned to a school—Tigner to Collierville Middle, Bivens to Crosswind Elementary, Loggins to Collierville Elementary, Lambert to Tara Oaks Elementary, Ammend to Sycamore Elementary, Pulley to Schilling Farms Elementary, Brister to Collierville High, Smith to Bailey Station Elementary, and Waguespack to West Collierville Middle. Officer Tapp will also be serving at Collierville High, contributing to the team’s robust security strategy.
The department emphasizes its commitment to forming strong relationships within the schools, an element seen as vital for creating a secure educational atmosphere. It is the kinship with students, the collaboration with faculty, and the dialogue with parents which officers like Thomas, Loggins, and Waguespack are expected to foster throughout the year. The emphasis on community engagement is interwoven with the program's safety objectives, providing a dual role for the officers involved. "Here’s to a fantastic school year ahead!" the post by the Collierville Police Department concluded, projecting an optimistic outlook for the communal endeavor.
