In the wake of the recent Minneapolis tragedy, Colorado Governor Polis has announced that flags in the state will be flown at half-staff. This directive comes in accordance with President Trump's proclamation and will remain in effect from Wednesday, August 27, until the evening of Sunday, August 31. This solemn act serves as a tribute to the victims and a symbol of condolence for their families during this devastating time.
"Kids deserve to feel and be safe in our schools, classrooms, neighborhoods, places of worship, and communities," Governor Polis expressed, as per the Colorado Governor's Office. He continued, "No parent or family should ever have to wonder if their child is safe at school, and violence against any child, or person in any form has no place in the United States." Such events shake the foundation of the sense of security communities hold dear, especially when they occur in spaces considered safe havens for our youngest citizens.
According to the directive, all flags on public buildings will remain lowered for the specified period as Colorado stands in solidarity with the city of Minneapolis. The governor's call for unity and support echoes throughout the state, reaching out to a nation in mourning. Governor Polis highlighted the anticipated community response: "This is an awful attack, and I know the community will come together to remember those lost and support one another," as obtained by the Colorado Governor's Office.
