In the face of rampant wildfires across Colorado, Governor Jared Polis has issued an Executive Order aimed at reinforcing the state’s capacity for early wildfire response and mitigating further risks, setting in motion an aggressive strategy for fire suppression that includes additional funding and the potential aid of the Colorado National Guard.

According to Colorado Governor's Office, Colorado is currently dealing with a series of severe wildfires, with this executive action intended not for a particular fire but encompassing the overarching state response to existing and potential wildfires it authorizes substantial emergency funds and supports detection and initial firefighting efforts, the order also empowers local agencies with the prepositioning of resources and supports the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) in their initial attack on new fires something that has already seen $1.5 million of the $1.7 million allocated for this fiscal year being spent.

"I’m so proud of our firefighters, and how our state and local governments are working closely together to protect people, property and livestock, and keep Colorado open for business despite the challenging fire season," Governor Polis asserted, as per the Colorado Governor's Office, signalling a unity of effort between state and local operations. The governor's action taps into the Wildfire Emergency Response Fund (WERF), adding $2.5 million to help sustain the battle against the blazes, which have torched upwards of 185,000 acres and mobilized over 2,000 personnel.

The firefighting ensemble consists of 41 aircraft from various sources, playing different roles: 14 air tankers, 14 T1 helicopters 6 T2 and 6 T3 helicopters, and 1 MMA aircraft are working tirelessly on multiple fronts, this tactical air force coupled with the efforts of the Colorado State Patrol and other state agencies, which have lent over 100 people as well as other significant resources such as firefighting engines and traffic control assistance, is aiming to prevent the spread of the present 24 uncontained fires across the state.
