Residents and commuters in Colorado Springs should prepare for upcoming construction that will affect the Woodmen Road bridge over North Academy Boulevard and the stretch of Woodmen Road from East Rockrimmon Boulevard to Olga Wilson Way. According to the City of Colorado Springs, starting mid-August, there will be nighttime single-lane closures, with road work scheduled between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Businesses are expected to remain open; however, travelers are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.

The construction, beginning on August 11, aims to enhance the bridge by repairing its surface and nearby ramps, in addition to revamping sidewalk and curb features; it's estimated that this will take roughly three months. Simultaneously, in September, resurfacing of Woodmen Road is set to commence as part of this infrastructure overhaul and is expected to last 3-5 weeks, weather permitting, the city outlined.

This infrastructure work is partly funded by the 2C Road Improvement Program, which was established by a 0.57% sales tax approved by voters back in 2019, as specified by the City of Colorado Springs. The funding, aimed at road enhancements in Colorado Springs since 2016, has been dedicated to the repair and maintenance of the city's roadways. Additionally, the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA), another voter-endorsed sales tax, contributes to regional infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and transit systems.
