Heads up, drivers and residents on Jade Road. The pothole saga continues—is there an end in sight? According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the pesky potholes plaguing a segment of South Outer Road 70 are still in the works, causing more roadway closures fit to disrupt your daily detours.
The roadway was closed down yesterday morning, leaving those nestled between U.S. Route 54 and Callaway County Route JJ to navigate a labyrinth of alternate paths. Indeed, locals with driveways off Jade Road can rest easy; their access will not be impeded. However, the rest of us mere mortals must seek a path less traveled, at least until the road reopens at 4 p.m. this afternoon. A brief respite will bless the weekend, from Friday through Monday, with clear passage.
But like a relentless Monday morning alarm, the closures will be back—Tuesday and Wednesday are the days marked in red. From the grudging dawn at 7 a.m. until the weary workers bid adieu at 4 p.m., the roads will be their domain.
"All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change," MoDOT cautions, a reminder that not all things are within our control. Motorists, in their bustling routine, are advised to brush off the dust from their defensive driving skills. You know the drill: buckle up, ignore the siren call of your phone, and remember the sacred dance of the road signs.
MoDOT bears its own litany as a mantra for all who journey through these temporary trials: "Motorists are advised to use extra caution through work zones, obey all traffic signs, and avoid any distractions." It's sound advice for the wary traveler, and we'd do well to heed it. After all, on the other side of those bright vests and rumbling machinery, a smoother path awaits.
