Adolfo Orozco-Garcia, former owner of the Alpine Motel, has turned himself in to begin his prison sentence for a 2019 fire that killed six people. Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty and was convicted of two counts of voluntary manslaughter and negligence. On Tuesday, he appeared at the Regional Justice Center to be taken into custody by the Nevada Department of Corrections. The fire at the Alpine Motel was the deadliest in Las Vegas city limits, according to News3LV.
A fire at a downtown property owned by Orozco-Garcia killed six people, injured 13, and left more than 50 residents without homes, as reported by 8 News Now. Reports said the units had nonworking fire safety equipment and no heating. On June 3, Orozco-Garcia was sentenced to 19–48 months in prison with eligibility for probation after the minimum term, following an Alford plea. His current incarceration status has not been updated on the Department of Corrections website due to network issues.
The Alpine Motel was sold and redeveloped into DLUX Lofts, as mentioned by Hoodline. The redevelopment changed the site following the 2019 fire that killed six people. The memory of the victims remains in the city.
