Michael Anthony Cornwell, 30, was sentenced to 106 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release for firearms offenses, U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson for the Western District of North Carolina announced.

According to the Department of Justice, authorities seized ammunition, gun magazines, a gun sight, digital scales, marijuana, and a loaded .40 caliber Glock from Cornwell’s residence. He was already under an outstanding warrant due to prior felony convictions, which legally prohibit him from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Cornwell pleaded guilty on January 10, to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. He was held in federal custody pending transfer to a Bureau of Prisons facility. The case was investigated by the ATF and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department as part of Operation Take Back America, a DOJ initiative involving programs such as OCDETF and PSN.
