An early morning fire ripped through a residence on Roane Street in Covington, Tennessee, leaving only charred remnants where a home once stood and investigators scrambling for clues. As reported by the Covington Tennessee Police Department's social media post, the blaze was first noticed by officers patrolling nearby James Street and Herring around 4:00 AM last Wednesday, leading them to the fully engulfed 1505 Roane Street address.
The homeowner was located staying with a friend in Shelby County, who confirmed that no one was inside the premises at the time of the incident. Firefighters from the Covington Fire Department responded promptly, managing to extinguish the flames and preventing further damage to the neighboring houses. The initial response was bolstered by detectives from the CPD and representatives from the TBI State Fire Investigators, aiming to unearth the cause of the fire.
Chief Donna Turner emphasized the ongoing investigative efforts, quoting, "The detectives and investigators will continue to follow up on tips and information related to the house fire," according to a report by the Covington Tennessee Police Department. Turner and Chief Richard Griggs are calling on the community's assistance, requesting residents in the Roane Street vicinity to review their surveillance footage for any unusual activity or vehicles before the fire broke out. Neighbor's surveillance videos have already shed some light on activities occurring between 2:00 and 4:00 AM, which are now under review.
