In a joint effort to support the independence of the aging population within West St. Paul, Dakota County has teamed up with the local nonprofit, Living Longer and Stronger. Together, they've crafted the West St. Paul Age-Friendly Action Plan, rooted in feedback gleaned from over 200 community members through a survey conducted last year.

The initiative aims to bolster various aspects of daily life for seniors, from accessible housing to better public transportation. The plan touches on eight key areas that are crucial for a healthier, quality life, as detailed on the Dakota County website. These include refining outdoor spaces and buildings, upscaling transportation options, and enhancing housing accessibility. Additionally, the plan encourages social and civic engagement, promotes respect and social inclusion, improves access to information and communication, and seeks to provide robust community support alongside health services.

West St. Paul residents, as well as those working in the area, are invited to partake in monthly virtual meetings hosted by Living Longer and Stronger. Taking place on the third Thursday of each month from 1 to 2 p.m., these forums are held on Microsoft Teams where ideas are exchanged, connections are made, and collaborative efforts are initiated to craft a community catered to the well-being of individuals across all ages.

For those interested in contributing to this proactive plan or seeking more information, a visit to the Living Longer and Stronger in West St. Paul page is encouraged. Here, it is possible to gain deeper insight into the eight focus areas and find details on the upcoming virtual meetings designed to sustain a thriving community for our elderly population.
