Last Sunday, DeSoto Police officers on routine patrol intersected with a moment of criminal activity. It was 2:20 a.m. when officers spied a dark gray Mercedes parked suspiciously in a hotel parking lot along the 1700 N. IH-35E frontage road. The hotel's lot cradled a violated vehicle, and soon, this scene birthed a chase. According to the DeSoto Police Department, the Mercedes, with two occupants, fled as officers sought to approach, catalyzing a pursuit that tore its way north into Dallas.
The chase would eventually wind down at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of West Pentagon Parkway. There, the Mercedes halted its run, and its occupants opted for foot. Their escape attempt was partially thwarted; while the driver melted away into the night, undeterred by cuffs or questions, the passenger, 20-year-old Brandon Finch of Dallas, was apprehended. Inside the vehicle, law enforcement found a loaded handgun and wallets that bore names not aligned with Finch.
Continuing their due diligence, the DeSoto Police Department turned to hotel surveillance, which "confirmed Finch's involvement in four vehicle burglaries." The details embossing this narrative stem from hotel cameras that served as uniquely unblinking witnesses. Finch, whose police records are illuminated by the shadow of two prior convictions for the same transgression, found himself facing four counts of Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. Each count, as they clung to Finch's history, hoisted the indisputations to State Jail Felonies.
