After nearly three months of hospitalization for a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Daveonte Dixon has been transferred to the Franklin County jail. Dixon stands accused of shooting two Mifflin Township police officers during a traffic stop that escalated quickly into violence. As reported by FOX28, Dixon was booked into custody last Thursday.
Charged with an array of serious offenses, Dixon faced his indictment with a plea of not guilty for all 11 felony charges, including two counts of attempted murder, six counts of felonious assault, as well as one count of tampering with evidence and two counts of having a weapon under disability. NBC4i mentioned that Dixon had been on probation and was barred from using firearms at the time of the incident. When deputies arrived to serve a search warrant at the residence where Dixon was hiding, he allegedly fired at law enforcement and then shot himself. During this incident, it carries to the importance to note that no law enforcement agents reportedly discharged their firearms.
Throughout the ordeal beginning on May 28, where the officers were shot after pursuing Dixon as he fled a traffic stop, both Dixon and the Mifflin Township community have been ensnared in a tale of violence that cut through the quiet hum of daily life and left two of the township's five officers wounded. According to NBC4i’s report, the dramatic chase and subsequent shooting were captured on body camera footage.
Currently, Dixon is held without bond as he awaits further proceedings on his case. Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Shayla Favor's office stated, "if convicted on all counts, Dixon faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 40 years in prison," and the potential of up to 163 years, as gleaned by WBNS. Each count of attempted murder and felonious assault includes a gun specification, reflecting Dixon's alleged aggression towards the officers.
