Denver residents should keep their rain gear at hand and brace for potential localized flooding, as the National Weather Service Denver/Boulder, CO forecasts a week filled with thunderstorms and heavy showers. According to the latest National Weather Service, there's a 70% chance of precipitation today, with showers and thunderstorms expected to develop after 9 a.m.
The forecast, which also outlines a weather pattern for the coming days, includes a mix of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms nearly daily. Despite the calm winds, Denverites are advised to stay vigilant as conditions can quickly become severe, with the threat of showers and thunderstorms intensifying each afternoon. This pattern, persisting through the week, poses risks of excessive rain that could lead to flooding in parts of the city.
As of the latest weather briefing, scattered showers and thunderstorms will form mid to late afternoon. As this activity spreads eastward across the I-25 Corridor and plains, showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage, reported the National Weather Service. They've also warned of the slight chance for severe thunderstorms and the heightened possibility of heavy rainfall from the systems later in the day, which could trigger localized flooding issues if storms move slowly or repeatedly hit the same areas.
The relatively cooler temperatures for the season are expected to continue throughout the week, offering little respite from the wet conditions. Residents should thus prepare for a dip in temperatures alongside the wetter weather, with the high temperatures hovering in the mid-70s to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Although spotter activation is not anticipated today or tonight, the community is urged to stay informed and to report any signs of flooding or weather-related hazards. The city's infrastructure could be tested if the predicted storms consistently lash the area with rainfall, increasing flood risks over the course of the week.
