As the bustle of summer travel reaches its peak, the Denver International Airport (DEN) has unveiled its new East Security Checkpoint, aiming to streamline the passenger experience with updated technologies and increased efficiency. Starting Tuesday, August 5, travelers departing from DEN will encounter the high-tech, 17-lane checkpoint situated on Level 6, mirroring the West Security Checkpoint that came into service last year.

TSA's implementation of this checkpoint, featuring three entrances to help sort travelers based on their screening eligibility, promises both enhanced security and quicker processing times, a boon as the agency navigated through screening 24.6 million individuals in 2024 and with electronic signage in place, passengers are guided swiftly to the right entrance, keeping the flow of foot traffic smooth; this data provided by TSA.

"This new checkpoint will improve the safety and security of the screening process and provide a more efficient experience for passengers," said TSA’s Federal Security Director for Colorado, Douglas Cruz, as per TSA. The updated checkpoint boasts an array of advanced technologies including Credential Authentication Technology (CAT-2) with 34 units to verify identities, Automated Screening Lanes (ASLs), Computed Tomography (CT) X-ray Units for improved threat detection, eAIT Body Scanners, Bottle Liquid Scanners, and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) systems to swab for explosive residue.

The conveniences promised by these new installations are a part of the larger $2.1 billion Great Hall Program, which is dedicated to thoughtfully enhancing security, increasing capacity, and elevating the passenger experience at DEN. The next stage in the program is set to see the opening of eight new security lanes on Level 5 by late summer 2026.
