The DeSoto Police Department is garnering smiles and gratitude after their "Operation Back 2 School" event, which took place earlier this month. In a social media update, the DeSoto Police Department shared that on August 2, more than 200 children were gifted with backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming academic year.

The initiative, aimed at preparing kids for a successful start to school, saw the participation of notable individuals, including DeSoto's Police Chief Joe Costa, Sergeant J. Holder, and various officers and community service officers, among them Officer Jessica Ryan and CSO Nikki Giles. Also lending their support were Mayor Pro-tem Crystal Chism and Councilwoman Deborah North. The event, which was held at Ernie Roberts Park, ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and provided families with essential school supplies, while allowing them to connect with their community before the school year's onset.

Parental appreciation was evident as many took to social media and other platforms to express their thankfulness. "The DeSoto Police Department organized the “Operation Back 2 School” event where they generously gave away backpacks and school supplies to over 200 children in the community," wrote the DeSoto Police Department on social media. They added, "The initiative was aimed at equipping kids for a successful first day of school."
