A woman was arrested in Dorchester on charges of an armed robbery that included a peculiar heist of frozen treats. According to a statement from the Boston Police Department, Omaila Medina, 41, was detained following an incident at the CVS Pharmacy on Blue Hill Avenue, where she allegedly threatened a store employee with a knife before making off with eight boxes of ice cream.
The Police Department reports that the call came in around 1:30 PM, Tuesday, and upon arrival, officers found a suspect matching the description—who turned out to be Medina—carrying the stolen goods. After further investigation, it emerged that the suspect also had nine outstanding arrest warrants for a range of offenses, making her no stranger to the law enforcement community.
Despite the unusual nature of the contraband, the CVS store can at least claim a minor victory as the ice cream was recovered, presumably still frozen, and returned to its rightful freezer. Medina was charged with armed robbery and will face those charges alongside the additional legal challenges from her multiple warrants.
Her arraignment took place in Dorchester District Court, where the seriousness of the charges contrasted with the lighter fare, of her loot. The case stands as a reminder of the desperate lengths to which some individuals will go, and the seemingly small triggers that can propel someone already entangled with the law into deeper trouble.
