Duluth is on the move with its latest green initiative, right next to Coleman Middle School. The city's Stormwater Division has kicked off a project to revamp the bioswale situated on Main Street. This effort is part of Duluth’s push to invest in green infrastructure, and local students are set to gain some first-hand knowledge during the process. As reported by news.duluthga.net, the Explore Gwinnett Creativity Fund is backing this educational opportunity.
The restorative work is expected to not only beautify the space, but also bolster the city’s environmental health. By the end of September, the collar of green encircling Coleman Middle School should stand as evidence of Duluth’s commitment to green initiatives. “Once finished at the end of September, this little patch of green space will be a fresh reminder of Duluth’s commitment to a healthier, greener city,” according to the city's announcement.
Engaging the students of Coleman Middle School in this project also serves an educational purpose. They will witness the complexities of stormwater management and learn about the benefits of sustainable urban planning. Integrating academic curricula with the practical application of green infrastructure allows for a dynamic, immersive learning experience.
