A fire, reported to have started at approximately 4:30 a.m., engulfed a two-family residence and rapidly spread to the adjoining home, according to statements obtained by Cleveland19 News. Local safety authorities have since launched a search for a resident considered missing amidst the calamity.
While battling the blaze, troubles burgeoned for the fire crews as they encountered blocked entryways, which made reaching the homes a task fraught with difficulty, reported WKYC. With the fire intensifying to assert dominance over a third house, Mansell Baker, the East Cleveland Safety Director, acknowledged the challenging nature of the containment efforts. He highlighted, in an interview with WKYC, the city's gratitude towards "neighboring communities for their support" in providing mutual aid.
The scope of the emergency operations has expanded, seeking to locate an older man believed to reside in the initial fire-stricken home. His car remained on-site, a silent sentinel to his unconfirmed fate. This detail came to light in a report by Cleveland19 News, intensifying concerns regarding his whereabouts.
Add to these efforts, a "search and rescue" dog has been deployed in the dire hope of finding the potentially trapped resident, as the homeowner’s car, still parked at the residence, stands as a potential marker for his presence. However, Mansell Baker told FOX8 that the man has not been seen. As a result of the fires, two houses have been deemed total losses, with a third suffering extensive damage. Despite the early morning turmoil, officials contained the fire by 7 a.m.
