The Eden Prairie Fire Department has stepped up its game with the acquisition of five new fire trucks, effectively replacing the well-worn engines that have served their community for over two decades, according to a statement on the city's official website. In a nod to tradition, the firefighters conducted a "push-in" ceremony, a historic practice that symbolizes their readiness to handle the new equipment and the emergencies that lie ahead.
At the heart of this ceremony was the christening of three fire engines and two specialized "skeeter" or rescue trucks, which now bolster the department’s capacity for all-hazard emergency responses, including wildfires and aircraft incidents. The vehicles boast modern features such as rollover protection, airbags, advanced driving systems, and reengineered cabinetry for medical supplies. Originating from orders placed in 2022 and later, the simultaneous arrival of these five fire trucks came as a result of manufacturing schedules, whereas additional vehicles including another engine and a new ladder truck are anticipated in 2026 and 2027 respectively, the Eden Prairie Fire Department is working through its asset management process to decide the fate of the retired engines, which might be traded or sold to other fire departments, representing continuity and renewal as the fire service advances.
