Ellis County employees can mark their calendars for the upcoming year's holidays, thanks to the recently approved schedule by the commissioners' court. The FY 2025-2026 Paid Holiday Schedule features the standard array of federal and state holidays that will see the closure of county offices, impacting budgeted full-time and part-time staff.
According to the schedule published on Ellis County's official website, workers can expect time off for observances, including Columbus Day on October 13 and Veterans Day on November 11. The Thanksgiving holiday extends to a two-day break, encompassing November 27-28. Christmas and New Year's Day follow suit, both granting employees multi-day respites in recognition of the season's festivities.
The majority of observed holidays correspond with national celebrations, such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19, 2026, and Presidents' Day on February 16. Ellis County also honors its Texas roots with Texas Independence Day slated for March 2. The religious observance of Good Friday on April 3 and the federally designated Memorial Day on May 25, also punctuate the calendar as days away from the office for county employees.
The schedule rounds off with Independence Day on July 3, 2026, taking place the day before the actual holiday to create an extended weekend for staff, and Labor Day is set for September 7. Each holiday closure commences at the regular closing hour of county offices the day before, with regular business hours resuming at 8:00 am on the following business day. For county residents and those conducting business with Ellis County offices, these dates are crucial for planning transactions and services around the holiday closures.
