The City of Everett has opened the public comment period for its 2026 Annual Action Plan and the 2024 Consolidated Annual Performance Evaluation Report (CAPER) draft, inviting community input on housing, public services, economic development, and other vital areas. The priorities for funding, which will guide the disbursement of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, HOME Program funds, 2060 Affordable Housing Trust Funds (AHTF), along with additional municipal funds, were established at a public hearing earlier this week, as per a recent announcement on the city's website.

Bridging the gaps in behavioral health, addressing mental health issues, and substance use disorders stand as top concerns. The development of housing solutions for unsheltered individuals, the preservation and creation of affordable and supportive housing units are also high on the list. Concerns for stabilizing the vulnerable segments of Everett's population speak to a deeper commitment to the city's overall health and well-being. Childcare, food insecurity, support for youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities are also identified as areas in need of public attention and funding, as reported by the City of Everett.

Moreover, the economic development initiatives include providing business support with technical assistance, offering job skill training and placement services, improving the façade of neighborhood buildings, and bolstering microenterprises. The funding priorities further extend to enhancing community (neighborhood) facilities and public infrastructure, all integral in fostering a thriving economic environment for Everett residents, according to the City of Everett.

Residents who wish to submit comments on the priority needs may do so until September 23, via email to Vicki Dorway at [email protected] or by regular mail to the city office address. Comments on the 2024 CAPER draft are also being accepted until September 9, with the document available for review online at the Community Development Block Grant webpage, or in printed form upon request by contacting [email protected] or calling (425) 257-7185.
