Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport sets a new standard for family travel by introducing dedicated TSA “Families on the Fly” lanes, aimed at reducing the hassle of airport security for those jetting off with children. The new security channels are designed to ease the strain for families navigating through checkpoints, simultaneously upholding the highest security measures. In a report by the Hawaii Department of Transportation, the latest initiative came into effect in time for the bustling summer season, where Honolulu sees a significant uptick in tourist flow.
"When families come to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) and enter one of our TSA security checkpoints, they will have a dedicated lane specific to them," said Nanea Vasta, TSA's Federal Security Director for Pacific Airports on Hawaii DOT. The campaign, which is also taking off in airports such as Orlando International and Charlotte-Douglas International, looks forward to decreasing the anxiety often associated with family travel, while catering to Hawaii's role as a premier family-friendly destination.
These custom lanes are a fraction of TSA's larger summer venture to improve the air travel process for various types of passengers. Notably, the “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” campaign was also launched, offering streamlined screening benefits to military personnel and their families—a tip of the hat to those serving the nation, as mentioned on Hawaii DOT. With Hawaii's tourism heavily reliant on an experience of 'ohana', or family, these enhancements at HNL are particularly resonant.
The TSA doesn't stop at families—there's something for the military, too. The TSA PreCheck® program now features discounted fees for traveling families and dedicated lanes for military service members, ensuring the bravest amongst us enjoy a touch less stress on their travels. Adding another layer of convenience for these travelers, as reported by the Hawaii DOT, military personnel and DOD staff can tap into PreCheck perks using their DOD ID numbers.
