In a case that has drawn much local attention, Fayette Schools Superintendent Angela Belcher was arrested on July 26 following a crash involving a golf cart and a truck near the Napoleon Police Department in Ohio. As reported by Hawaii News Now, police allege Belcher was driving the golf cart under the influence of alcohol.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. and was heard by officers within the nearby station. According to Cleveland19, the truck driver involved stated he was moving slowly and turned left in front of Belcher, but did not see her until it was too late because the golf cart's headlights were not on. Despite Belcher's insistence that the headlights were on, security footage confirmed they were, in fact, off.
Following the crash, officers noted a "strong smell of an alcoholic beverage" emanating from Belcher. She admitted to having consumed two glasses of wine approximately two hours before the incident. As detailed by ACTION NEWS, Belcher became "increasingly more closed off and defensive" when police initiated sobriety testing, though she eventually agreed to participate. However, she refused to take a breath test.
Officers reported observing several indications of impairment, leading to Belcher's arrest following the field sobriety tests. Nevertheless, court documents indicate she has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case continues to unfold, with the local community and education stakeholders closely monitoring the proceedings.
