A fire broke out at the Blu Jam Cafe located at 23311 W Mulholland Dr in Woodland Hills yesterday afternoon, as first reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The incident, logged as INC#1205, initially prompted a response from LAFD at approximately 4:31 PM due to heavy smoke emanating from the restaurant situated within a one-story strip mall. Los Angeles County Fire Department resources, who were near the site when the fire started, also provided assistance.
As the situation developed, the LAFD called for additional firefighting companies, including Hazardous Materials (HM87) and Urban Search & Rescue (UR88 and UR89) units. According to the LAFD alert, traffic control was necessitated, subsequently handled by the Department of Transportation, and the Los Angeles Police Department was also involved with traffic incident management. Despite the potential danger, the incident didn't seem to immediately escalate beyond the confines of the cafe.
Just 33 minutes following the initial response, firefighters achieved a 'knockdown' of the kitchen fire. In total, 117 firefighters were on scene. They managed to not only suppress the blaze but also to prevent it from spreading to adjacent units within the strip mall. This information was furnished by the LAFD's follow-up alert about the knockdown. The efficient efforts of the firefighting crews ensured that the fire was contained to the single unit where it started.
Once the fire was under control, crews remained on scene to carry out overhaul and salvage operations. They aimed not only to clear the wreckage but to also safeguard any property that could possibly be saved. Although the area around the Blu Jam Cafe was expected to experience traffic disruptions due to ongoing operations, no injuries were reported in connection with the fire, as noted by the LAFD.
