As the Labor Day holiday approaches, residents of Flagstaff should prepare for a quiet city Monday with multiple facility closures. In an announcement made available through the city's website, Flagstaff's City Hall offices, located at 211 W. Aspen Ave., will remain shuttered on September 1, resuming operations the following day. The holiday, dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers, typically sees both government and private entities taking a pause to celebrate.
Alongside City Hall, other establishments such as the Cinder Lake Landfill and the Hazardous Products Center on East Landfill Road will also halt operations. The services at Citizens Cemetery on South San Francisco Street and the public libraries both in downtown Flagstaff and in East Flagstaff are taking a break as well. Community centers, including the Hal Jensen Recreation Center and the Joe C. Montoya Community and Senior Center, will remain closed, joining the Materials Recovery Facility on Butler Avenue in observing the national holiday.
However, it's not a full standstill for all city amenities. The Aquaplex, at 1702 N. Fourth Street, will maintain its regular hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Jay Lively Activity Center at 1650 N. Turquoise Drive will continue with regularly scheduled programming for those looking to stay active during the holiday.
Flagstaff's sanitation schedule will undergo modifications with no residential trash or recycling services provided on Labor Day. According to the City of Flagstaff official announcement, "Customers with trash service normally scheduled on Monday will have their trash collected on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Customers with recycling service normally scheduled on Monday will have their recycling collected on Wednesday, Sept. 3." All other residential pickups are set to run uninterrupted. Similarly, commercial customers will not receive trash or recycling services on Monday, but recuperation will occur throughout the week.
For those seeking more details on holiday closures and changes to services, Flagstaff's city website offers a comprehensive list and additional information to assist locals in planning their Labor Day activities. A brief visit to the city's alert page provides the necessary data to navigate the temporary operational landscape presented by this federal break.
