The City of Flagstaff is seeking community input on a new three-dimensional landmark art piece planned for the Spruce Wash Wedge Detention Project. According to the City of Flagstaff’s announcement, residents of the Eastside or those connected to the area are encouraged to participate in an online survey available until September 9. The feedback will help guide the artwork’s design to reflect the character of the community.
The City of Flagstaff explained that community input plays a central role in the public art process, from selecting the artist team to shaping the final concept. The chosen artist team will review survey responses to identify common themes and use them to create preliminary designs. These designs will later be shared with the community in 2026 for further review.
The project is part of the broader Spruce Wash Watershed Improvements initiative, which focuses on flood prevention and landscape enhancement. Last spring, the artist team Haddad|Drugan was selected to design the landmark. As per the City of Flagstaff, the team has previously created installations such as “Lion Eyes (Through the Forest)” and “Southside Grove” at the Downtown Connection Center. Residents interested in sharing input can access the survey at connect.flagstaffaz.gov/sprucewashwedge.
