The Clay County Sheriff's Office reported that a tip came in through the FortifyFL app alleging a student intended to bring a gun to Clay High School. The school proceeded with a modified lock down while authorities investigated.
The probe quickly identified Ahmon Laster, a 14-year-old student at Bannerman Learning Center, as the suspect behind the threat. Laster was located at his home, allowing both Bannerman Learning Center and Clay High School to resume normal operations. The situation unfolded without incident, with no evidence found of Laster possessing or bringing a gun on campus.
During the investigation, it became clear that Laster's motive was to falsely implicate his brother, a Clay High student, following a sibling dispute. "Laster knowingly submitted a false tip through the FortifyFL app with the intent of implicating his brother," the Clay County Sheriff's Office stated. He was taken into custody for making a false report concerning the use of a firearm in a violent manner.
Clay County authorities emphasize the gravity of such actions. "Our schools are a place for growing and learning without fear of harm," the Clay County Sheriff's Office and Clay County School Board declared in the jointly shared message. They encourage the community to promptly report any threats of violence, underscoring their zero-tolerance policy for such behavior.
