A former local youth theater instructor has been sentenced for 'annoying/molesting' a child, according to a post from the Placer County District Attorney's Office. David Williams, aged 30, must now register as a sex offender for a decade following his misdemeanor conviction.
Williams began the illegal activity of covertly recording underage girls in 2024, which led to his arrest. Through victim identification and the review of security footage, Williams was found to have followed and recorded at least 15 minor girls. It was during one of these incidents that a 14-year-old girl noticed Williams’s actions and reported to the Roseville Police Department.
The Placer County Superior Court handed down a 180-day jail sentence and a year of probation on Aug. 4. Highlighting the confines of recent legislation, the judge noted that the state law limits the probationary period to one year for this particular offense. In addition to jail time and probation, the court ordered Williams to avoid any contact with minors and to engage in sex offender treatment as the Probation Department mandates.
Described as an active participant in various community youth theater groups, Williams served in a capacity where trust is a foundational requirement. The Misdemeanor Unit prosecuted the case, with assistance from the office's Victim Services Unit.
