In a unanimous decision touching the hearts of many, the Fort Worth City Council has approved a resolution to rename the South Patrol Division of the Fort Worth Police Department after Sgt. Billy Randolph, a veteran officer whose life was tragically cut short last year. According to the City of Fort Worth, the segment will now be known as the Billy Randolph South Patrol Division Headquarters, a move initiated by the City Manager's Office and the FWPD to honor Randolph's three-decade-long devotion to duty.
It was on a quiet August morning in 2024, specifically on the 12th, that Sgt. Randolph met a fate no person of his courage and commitment deserves he was supervising the clear-up of a collision on Interstate 35 when his life was abruptly ended by a wrong-way driver, the whole community felt the shockwaves of a life taken too soon, Randolph was revered for his service, both as a law enforcement stalwart and as a United States Air Force veteran, began his career with the department after graduating from Academy Class #91 in the summer of 1995, he was remembered not only for his leadership but for his role in guiding many who followed his path.
After the incident, Sgt. Randolph was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital, but sadly, his injuries were too severe, leading to the end of a narrative marked by bravery and selflessness. In the aftermath, the wayward driver attempted to escape but was swiftly apprehended and charged with intoxication manslaughter – a stark reminder of the risks law enforcement faces each day in the line of duty.
The newly christened Billy Randolph South Patrol Division Headquarters sits prominently at 3501 W. Risinger Road, serving as both a beacon of justice and a solemn tribute to the sacrifice of one of Fort Worth's finest, as the resolution, which comes into effect immediately, engraves Sgt. Randolph’s legacy into the very fabric of the community he served with distinction, and a resilience that those who wear the badge strive to embody.
