Fort Worth residents, mark your calendars for a unique musical experience. The Amplify 817 Showcase, celebrating its fourth year, promises an eclectic lineup of local talent. Scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Birdie’s Social Club and The Post, the event offers a free, family-friendly evening filled with diverse sounds right from the heart of Panther City.
Getting the crowd into the groove, DJ Asa Ace will be opening the night, according to the City of Fort Worth News. American roots aficionado Grady Spencer, the acoustic Americana duo Tipps & Obermiller, and the electric energy of Cherry Mantis will also be there, joining Cowtown hip-hopper 88 Killa and rock-infused country artist Kendi Jean. These performers collectively embody the area's rich musical tapestry, and they are sure to offer something for every attendee.
Fort Worth Public Library's Library Director, Midori Clark, emphasized the unifying power of music, saying, per the City of Fort Worth, "Music connects all of us," and suggesting the showcase as the perfect venue for community connection. Community donations to the Fort Worth Public Library Foundation and support from Hear Fort Worth have been instrumental in bringing the Amplify 817 initiative to life, offering more than 100 local artists a platform to share their music without the cost or hassle of commercial interruptions.
Providing a platform since February 2020, Amplify 817 not only streams these artists' music but also pays them upfront and offers additional support such as media training and marketing, as reported by the City of Fort Worth News. For musicians like Donovan Payne, known to his fans as 88 Killa, the program delivers "tangible validation" that resonates deeply with performers, endorsing their efforts and emphasizing the city's unique culture.
