The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher (NCAFF) will host its annual Femme in STEM event on September 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Founded in 2019, the program encourages girls and women to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). More than 1,500 attendees are expected, with over 30 organizations providing activities and demonstrations.
According to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources website, the event responds to research showing a decline in interest in science among middle school girls. Femme in STEM offers opportunities to engage with STEM subjects and interact with role models in these fields. Exhibitors and participants have noted the event’s impact on both learning and representation.
Admission to Femme in STEM is included with regular aquarium entry, with tickets available online. The aquarium is also inviting new exhibitors to participate. More information can be found on the NCAFF website.
