Mark your calendars for a freebie that's worth the gas money: On August 4, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is giving everyone a free pass, that's $0 admission, to all state parks in celebration of Colorado's 149th birthday. That's right, folks, pull out those dusty hiking boots and give them the tour they deserve.
With Colorado Day marking the state's entrance to union back in 1876, the tradition continues to roll on the first Monday of August each year, providing locals and tourists alike the chance to bask in Colorado's natural splendor without the usual park fees, although you'll still have to cough up cash for camping and those pesky boat registrations. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife stated that while admission is on the house, other costs remain, which include camping reservations, boat, off-highway vehicle registrations, and, of course, your fishing license.
CPW isn't just throwing open the gates and hoping for the best; they're reminding everyone to play nice with nature. There's a splatter of tips on how to do the great outdoors the right way: download that COTREX app for trail maps, check out Celebrate Colorado Week events, and for Pete's sake, keep yourself, your kids, and your fur babies hydrated. Also, grab a life jacket from their loaner program, because contrary to popular belief, most humans aren't natural-born swimmers.
