The Frisco Police Department has made an arrest in connection with an aggravated assault incident that unfolded late July, officials say. 58-year-old Damon Wolfe of Frisco was apprehended after the department investigated a series of events sparked by a prank gone wrong.
On July 28, officers responded to a call involving gunfire on Scottsdale Way. The caller reported shooting at a person allegedly involved in an attempt to kick in his door, per the Frisco Police Department's press release. It turned out, the suspect, Wolfe, had heard a loud bang, stepped outside, and discharged his weapon at a vehicle, thinking its occupants were the offenders.
That same evening, a shooting incident was reported on Hawk Creek Drive, where a vehicle had been hit with bullets. The occupants initially claimed they were random targets, but later confessed to partaking in a prank, explicitly a doorbell-ringing dare that escalated. This admission came after police noticed bullet holes in their vehicle, and the Frisco Crime Scene Investigation team had processed the scene.
With gathered evidence and interviews, detectives determined there was probable cause to charge Wolfe with three counts of Aggravated Assault, "one for each occupant," in the words of the Frisco Police Department's statement. A judge issued the arrest warrants, and Wolfe was taken into custody on August 7. If convicted, he faces 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 for this second-degree felony.
In the wake of the event, Frisco Police Chief David Shilson reminded the community, particularly parents, about the perils of social media challenges. He stated, "The teens involved in this case are very fortunate they were not shot and killed or seriously injured. For homeowners, it is important to understand that there are legal and criminal consequences for running outside and shooting at a vehicle fleeing the scene." His comments underscore the gravity of what transpired and point to a community rattled by reckless behavior on both sides, that could have had fatal consequences.
