The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, opening up what will be a triumphant addition to the city's infrastructure.
Garland's Senior Activity Center, a project tinged with anticipation, is a substantial commitment with a price tag of $17.5 million. Spanning an area of around 27,000 square feet, the facility is set to boast amenities tailored for seniors' wellness and leisure. According to the City of Garland, features will include "exercise rooms, a game room, a walking track, an arts and crafts room with a kiln, a library with computers, wellness consultation areas and outdoor spaces for recreation and social activities."
The realization of this center follows a clear mandate from Garland's voters who, in 2019, voiced their approval for the upgrades to the existing senior center as part of that year's bond package. With temporary relocation to the Fields Recreation Center during construction, the seniors of Garland have shown patience and resilience, eagerly awaiting the completion of what is promised to be an unmatched facility in service to the community's elders.
