The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Quitman County, Georgia. According to the statement, Maurice Snapp, 41, from Abbeville, Alabama, was fatally shot during an altercation with Quitman County Sheriff Charles Davis. No injuries were reported for the sheriff during the incident, as reported by the GBI's official statement.
Events unfolded on the morning of Monday, when a distress call brought authorities to a residence on Lucy Lane in response to a report of a man attacking a woman. Having escaped, the woman managed to contact 911 for help. Arriving at the scene, Sheriff Davis confronted Snapp, who then attacked him, resulting in the sheriff discharging his weapon and killing Snapp. Responding to the home, Snapp was pronounced dead at the scene after having been shot by Sheriff Davis.
The GBI's investigation is in full swing, with the intent to hand over findings to the Pataula County Judicial Circuit for further review. In line with procedure, an autopsy on Snapp will be handled by a GBI Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
Sheriff Davis, who survived unharmed, now finds his actions under the microscope, though it is standard protocol for such investigations to take place irrespective of the outcome. Details surrounding the investigation are still emerging, and the GBI is expected to release additional information as it becomes available.
