The Peach State is setting its sights on becoming the premier destination for tourists far and wide. This Thursday, Georgia's Senate Study Committee on Making Georgia the No. 1 State for Tourism is scheduled for its inaugural hearing, and it's happening lakeside, at The Boathouse at Lake Lanier. The details of the event, which takes place on Thursday at 9:00 a.m., were released by Senate Press.
Chaired by Sen. Drew Echols (R–Alto), the committee was formed via Senate Resolution 323 with a bipartisanship spirit. It will delve into the assorted landscapes of Georgia's tourism, exploring opportunities to attract visitors from the mountain trails in the north to the historic streets of Savannah to the south. According to the posted agenda, this public and live-streamed event will feature discussions with industry leaders, aiming to understand how the tourism sector can boost local economies, sustain small businesses, and raise the overall quality of life for residents.
Those interested in attending the event can find it at 3105 Clarks Bridge Rd, Building 1, in Gainesville, GA 30506. In a move to increase access and transparency, there will also be a live stream available on the Georgia General Assembly's website for those who cannot attend in person.
Media planning to cover the hearing are encouraged to RSVP — it’s not required, but it's a courtesy. Zach Pishock from the Senate press office is handling the media queries and can be contacted for confirmations at [email protected]. The committee's findings and activities could chart a course for Georgia's future in the tourism industry, which has been seeking new avenues for growth and revitalization.
