Looking to tap into your inner poet or perhaps buff up that manuscript? The City of Glendale invites aspiring storytellers to its free Writer in Residence Fall Session, featuring two esteemed local poets ready to share their expertise through a range of workshops and personalized feedback sessions—without costing you a dime. Glendale's libraries are now hosting this event that commenced on August 4 and will wrap up in October, giving attendees ample opportunity to spark their creativity.
As reported by GlendaleAZ.com, Shawnte Orion, notable for his book "Gravity & Spectacle" and Rosemarie Dombrowski, the inaugural Poet Laureate of Phoenix, are headlining the program, Orion's workshop, aptly titled "Writer in Residence Workshop: Creative Writing Inspired By the Cinema," took place at Velma Teague Library and looked to marry the worlds of celluloid innovation with written expression through interactive and, dare we say, entertaining exercises, he's scheduled for more one-on-one writing consultations through October and you have to register for these sessions starting at 10 a.m. on August 9 at Foothills Library.
Meanwhile, Dombrowski is set to impart knowledge on the therapeutic power of poetry with her session, "Writer in Residence Workshop: Poetic Medicine: Writing for Wellness." She intends to explore poetry’s potential in alleviating stress and improving overall wellness, diving into the practice with studies, readings, and interactive writing activities. Her workshop is pegged for August 23 at Foothills Library, but don't forget to sign up—space is reserved for those who register in advance with sessions beginning at 10 a.m. on August 13 at the same venue.
Giving further details, Foothills Library librarian Lauren Kalt highlights how the Writer in Residence program, supported by a grant from the Arizona State Library and the Institute for Museums and Library Services, caters to a broad demographic, "These popular events attract adults young and old, and all genres and experience levels are welcome!" said Kalt according to GlendaleAZ, "Sometimes they bring manuscripts for feedback, ask how to get published and reap the benefits of coaching for their writing projects." Kalt adds that it creates an inviting space for writers to flourish in their craft, reflecting on the event’s ability to foster a constructive community for growth and expression.
Interested parties can find additional information and times for these enriching literary gatherings by visiting the Glendale Library. Whether you're an established writer or just finding your voice, these sessions promise a bounty of guidance and inspiration.
