With severe weather approaching Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has deployed additional state emergency response resources to prepare for potential impacts. The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has been directed to remain on alert this weekend as thunderstorms pose a threat to several areas, including North, East, and Central Texas, as well as the Texas Panhandle. According to a statement obtained by the Governor's office, "Texas continues to closely monitor conditions as severe weather moves across our state," said Governor Abbott. He also called on the people to "take all necessary precautions for potential weather hazards."

The National Weather Service predicts that these impending storms may lead to excessive rainfall and flash flooding, alongside potentially damaging winds. In response, Texans are being advised to not only keep abreast of local forecast information but to also have an emergency strategy at the ready. Governor Abbott has ensured that a variety of state resources will be readily available to support storm response operations. Among those resources are Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service to help with potential flood rescues and Strike Teams from the Texas A&M Forest Service to aid local departments against hazards. Support packages from the Texas Department of State Health Services, which include medics, ambulances, and all-terrain vehicles, have also been put on stand-by.

With road conditions expected to worsen, the Texas Department of Transportation is on alert. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has deployed Game Wardens, rescue boat teams, and helicopters equipped with hoist capabilities. The Texas Department of Public Safety is providing helicopters, Highway Patrol Troopers, and the Tactical Marine Unit. The Texas National Guard is preparing to offer aerial rescue support and vehicles for stranded motorists. Additional involvement comes from the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Public Utility Commission of Texas, Railroad Commission of Texas, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality as part of the emergency response.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and road conditions through DriveTexas.org, learn about flood safety at TexasReady.gov, and obtain important flood information from TexasFlood.org. The activation of TDEM on Wednesday has established a coordinated network of support and prevention measures to address the approaching storm.
