Texas Governor Greg Abbott has endorsed the passage of House Bill 4, legislation focused on the state’s congressional district layout. According to the Office of the Texas Governor website, the bill, supported by the Republican majority, recently cleared the Texas House of Representatives. Abbott commended Speaker Burrows and House Republicans for advancing the measure, stating it reflects the voting patterns of Texans.
Abbott also criticized Democratic members who left the state to block the bill, describing their actions as an attempt to prevent its passage. Democrats have argued that the legislation favors Republican interests and undermines fair representation.
House Bill 4 now moves to the Texas Senate for consideration. Abbott has said he will sign the bill if it reaches his desk.
The proposal has drawn attention to broader issues of redistricting, including debates over gerrymandering and voter representation, as Texas lawmakers continue deliberations.
