In a significant development for Texas' energy sector, Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Brazos Midland Processing, LLC, known as Brazos Midstream, is set to expand its natural gas processing operations in Martin County, an initiative that falls under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program; Brazos Midstream plans to build a new natural gas processing plant with a capacity of 300 million cubic feet per day, representing a $185 million capital investment, according to a statement on the Governor's official website.

"Texas energy fuels the American economy," stated Governor Abbott and with the rise of energy demands, Texas' commitment to energy production continues unabated, as the new plant is expected to more than double the region's natural gas processing capacity in the prolific Midland Basin – part of the greater Permian Basin, which is responsible for a quarter of natural gas production across the 48 contiguous states, the announcement from the governor's office noted, highlighted the significance of the region in meeting national energy needs.

Brazos Midstream is looking forward to breaking ground on this new Sundance II facility, with CEO Brad Iles conveying his enthusiasm, "This investment provides mission-critical gas infrastructure and reliable takeaway capacity to energy producers, furthering our shared goal of energy dominance in the nation," as he told the Governor's office. He also expressed gratitude toward the local community and state for supporting the project through the JETI program, which aims to drive job creation and economic growth by leveraging large-scale energy infrastructure.

Local leaders have embraced the initiative with open arms, with Senator Kevin Sparks acknowledging the significant role of Martin County and the Permian Basin at large in the American energy supply chain and Representative Tom Craddick echoed this sentiment, saying, "Brazos Midstream's expansion in Martin County will bring new jobs, strengthen our local economy, and ensure that Texas remains a leader in providing energy for years to come," his statement indicates, underscoring the expected positive impact on regional economic development and energy leadership of Texas.

Education also stands to gain from Brazos Midstream's expansion, with Stanton ISD Superintendent Jan McCown lauding the partnership and the anticipated economic benefits it portends for district stakeholders, "Stanton ISD is pleased to partner with Brazos Midstream in expanding the community’s manufacturing base and thanks the Governor’s Office for its support," as stated in the Governor's announcement.
