At a ceremony in Houston, Governor Greg Abbott signed three bills supporting veterans in Texas. In his remarks, he noted the large veteran population in the state and emphasized Texas’ commitment to them. “We owe every member who serves our country the deepest appreciation that we have,” Abbott said, adding that the state is a leader in job creation through veteran-owned businesses, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
Texas lawmakers approved several measures to support veterans, including Senate Bill 1814, which creates an electronic database for resources, and Senate Bill 1818, which allows provisional licenses for those with out-of-state credentials. House Bill 114 places various veteran programs under the Texas Veterans Commission, while Senate Bill 2308 funds research on ibogaine treatment for opioid addiction and behavioral health issues, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
The measures were recognized at the annual Combat Marine Outdoors Gala, attended by Governor Greg Abbott, Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock, and other officials. At the bill signing, Governor Abbott said, “Texas will forever honor the service and sacrifice of those who served the United States of America,” as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
